Job Summary

*

Be responsible for assisting with the delivery of an exciting portfolio of ecological surveys and helping provide robust, proportionate advice to clients on a wide range of ecological topics;

*

Working as part of the existing network of AECOM ecologists within integrated teams on challenging multi-disciplinary projects, mostly in North West England and North Wales;

*

Having the opportunity to learn from some of the best ecologists in the country;

*

Supporting liaison with internal project managers and clients to identify and agree the ecological requirements of projects;

*

Organising and carrying out desk studies and field based protected species, botanical and habitat surveys, including for terrestrial, freshwater, estuarine and coastal habitats;

*

Undertaking the analysis, evaluation, interpretation and presentation of ecological data, including through production of Ecological Impacts Assessments and design of mitigation strategies;

*

Working independently and taking responsibility for robust surveys, conducted safely, and producing high quality reports and other deliverables for review by technical specialists;

*

Performing the role of an Ecological Clerk of Works on construction projects;

*

Liaising effectively with managers, as well as other stakeholders as required;

*

Assisting with managing the technical and financial performance of ecological projects to meet budgets and deadlines;

*

Having the opportunity to engage in technical groups developing best practice in one or more areas of terrestrial, freshwater, estuarine and/or marine ecology which may include protected species; and

*

Undertaking other tasks which add value to the development of the ecology team or support wider environmental business goals, as required.

*

Position requires extensive progressive experience.

*

Plans, schedules, and organizes all phases of a major project work activities related to scientific needs, ensures proper manpower budgets and controls and monitors expenditures and progress on projects.

*

Develops technical solutions to complex problems which require regular use of scientific principles and application of past experience.

*

Leads specific tasks and objectives by guiding the completion of major programs (may hold a project leadership role).

*

Applies extensive technical expertise to perform and publish research without appreciable direction.

*

Primary author or lead reviewer on major project documents.

Minimum Requirements

*

Have experience of working as an ecologist conducting surveys, analysing results and presenting outputs;

*

Come with a proven track record of providing ecological inputs to projects, including assessment in accordance with the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) guidelines; and

*

Be a Full Member of CIEEM, or eligible to qualify for this status, with a commitment to your professional behaviour and development.

Preferred Qualifications

* Recognised degree in a biological, science or related discipline – a relevant post graduate qualification in the one of these would be advantageous.
