Wood are seeking a Construction Manager with Pharmaceutical and Fine Chemicals experience to join our Construction Team base in our Darlington office.

Roles and Responsibilities

HSEQS & IR

* Act as an Ambassador of the company in all aspects of HSEQS & IR.
* Ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with the Wood Health, Safety, Environment, Security (HSES) and quality policy.

HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS

* Manage and maintain mutually beneficial working relationships with Contractors, Client, and subordinates

LEGAL

* Comply with Company and Client secrecy agreements, and compliance, pertinent to the Construction Site and associated activities

MANAGEMENT

* Liaise with designers and engineers throughout the engineering phase to maximise the use of construction knowledge and experience in all aspects of the project paying particular attention to constructibility.
* Develop construction feasibility and method studies.
* Establish in conjunction with planning group realistic schedules for construction activities.
* Development of the contracting philosophy for the project.
* Ensure contract deliverables, documents and specifications are produced to meet the needs of the project schedule.
* Prepare and review for approval plans, drawings, specifications, requisitions and bid summaries for all temporary facilities and construction equipment required within the scope of Wood services.
* Develop construction deliverables to suit the project requirements and input progress into the Document Management System.
* Undertake HAZCON reviews as required.
* Provide Constructibility input into the engineering phase of the project, including preparation and facilitation of Constructibility reviews where required.
* Undertake site visits where required and produce site visit reports accordingly.
* Be responsible for the development of heavy lift and transportation strategy for projects, assisted by Heavy Lift and Transport engineers.
* Provide input into the proposal process including the preparation of construction narratives, manpower estimates and reviews and presentations.
* Review the project requirements, and the constructibility checklist to identify critical execution issues, and assist with the overall schedule and the construction execution plan.
* Review the model Safety Plan and instructions to Contractors incorporate project specific requirements as required. Prepare, and review for approval site safety procedures and work practices for the project in conjunction with the HSSE Senior Manager.
* Provide input into the Project HSE Plan, including the development of CDM roles and responsibilities.
* Review the model Site Quality Plan, instructions to Contractors and other quality procedures and incorporate project specific requirements as required. Prepare, and review for approval the site quality plan and procedures for the project in conjunction with the
* Head of Construction to ensure Wood requirements are incorporated into the site activities.
* In conjunction with the Materials Coordinator monitor the shipping/delivery forecasts to ensure the project schedule is met.
* Provide Home Office clarification on issues raised at site by communication with other involved Home Office departments as necessary.
* In conjunction with the Commissioning team define the systems required by Commissioning, and the groups of systems required for Operations.
* In conjunction with Project Control, agree practical dates for turnover of the systems, and groups of systems, setting realistic milestones for the Construction Contractors to achieve.
* Maintain the necessary records to ensure quality assurance requirements are met.
* Liaise with field staff on construction engineering matters.
* As required transfer to site to lead the construction team and manage the site works

Skills / Qualifications

* Significant, demonstrable experience within a relevant construction management environment
* Educated to minimum HNC or similar and equivalent experience in a construction related position and preferably with a trades background
* Excellent verbal/written communication, problem solving, and decision-making skills
* Experience with construction plans and specifications, tracking RFIs and submittal's, and developing project documentation
* Experience tracking and analysing cost and schedule and knowledge of Microsoft Project or Primavera preferred
* Must be willing to travel as required to support our major and minor programs
