The role

Working as part of the Alliance wide commercial team, you will be responsible for implementing Amey Group and Alliance processes for cost capture, valuation, procurement and reporting.

This will include interrogating and interpreting cost data from Amey’s systems, distilling it into Alliance cost reports, as well as reviewing Alliance forecasts to support Amey internal valuations and cash flow forecasting. Working closely with the various project teams within the Alliance, Amey Finance and the Principal Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the preparation of robust cost value reconciliation reports on a monthly basis for Amey’s internal reporting.

The role will be based from the TRU-West Project Office located in Manchester. Travel between sites and / or offices maybe be required as part of the role including to Leeds.

You will bring big-company quantity surveying experience from either Rail or Highways in order to be successful in this role.

Key accountabilities

Working as part of the Alliance wide commercial team the candidate will provide commercial support to the Project team and / or Alliance Wide teams, maintain commercial information, support the procurement process and ensure compliance with the Alliance and Amey processes, procedures and governance.

You will help to deliver the overarching commercial strategy set by the Project Commercial Lead, working closely with the various project teams within the Alliance.

Provide support in the management of budgets and effectively manage any commercial threats and opportunities. You will provide commercial and contractual advice to the teams around risk management, procurement and estimating.

Support accurate forecasting and interrogation of cost. Provide commercial and financial feed-back to the Estimators and delivery teams.

You will robustly manage supply chain partners in conjunction with the Alliance Charter and assist with the procurement of key contracts / subcontracts.

Exercise robust cost control including providing and monitoring budgets and forecasts in conjunction with the Commercial Lead/Project Manager/Budget Holder.

Analyse commercial data to identify opportunities, variances, issues and trends.

Engage with team members to review monthly and/or weekly cost and value forecasts to completion of the project. Manage the calculation and management of Earned Value (in liaison with Project Controls).

Provide support and manage KRA and KPI calculations and complete project health check documentation.

Skills & experience

Degree qualification (RICS accredited or equivalent) is desirable, or able to demonstrate a proven track record in quantity surveying / commercial management with significant experience in a senior role.
Experience in the rail sector and particular Rail Systems (track, overhead line, power and distribution and lines side civils).
Competent in basic computer skills.
Strong commercial and financial acumen.
Ability to time-manage, set priorities and work to strict deadlines.
Methodical style of working.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products especially Excel and Word.
Strong desire to further Client relationships whilst ensuring that contractual entitlements are not compromised.
Team player.
Determination to develop and coach junior members of the commercial team.
Motivation and desire to succeed.
Ability to work under pressure.
Good communication skills.
Good negotiation skills.
Sound knowledge of contracts.
Awareness of industry issues.
