Cloud Lead Architect, Plymouth or Gloucester, Competitive Salary & Benefits.

We’re not your average Energy Company – EDF drive an innovative cloud platforms service (AWS and Azure) across our business units. Our Enterprise IT (EIT) Service has been evolved to more quickly meet the specified requirements and strategic business outcomes for Customers, Generation, Nuclear New Build and Corporate & Steering Functions.

We are looking for a Cloud Lead Architect to provide thought leadership, whilst ensuring “guide rails” are proportionate to the technical / commercial / security / compliance risks and level of agility, flexibility and empowerment required by the business. The successful execution of this role is critical to the successful delivery of multi-million-pound programmes and ensuring optimal ongoing operating costs

The Person

Day to Day:

* You will provide technical leadership to ensure the EIT Cloud platforms (mainly Azure) evolve; where appropriate direct conceptual and logical designs and oversee detailed designs from a Cloud Architecture view point i.e. ensure that designs comply with standards, IT strategy, and architectural blueprints; provide advisory services engaging directly with deliver teams to clarify and shape needs, define requirements, identify and develop solutions; provide oversight all technical activity and resources; establish and maintain effective relationships with other functions within the wider IT community, Business Units and EDF Group.

* Act as a trusted advisor guiding stakeholders and colleagues in a consultative manner; involving engaging using a Hybrid cloud adoption framework and assisting with business cases and architecture; ensure “guide rails” are proportionate to the technical / commercial / compliance risks and level of agility, flexibility and empowerment required.

* Maintain excellent understanding of portfolio of solutions; assist in resolving complex platform issues; monitor industry IT developments, trends and competitors, to ensure solutions exploit current and future Cloud technologies; drive the digital transformation of EIT Services by identifying motivators for Cloud adoption and unlocking challenges that EIT and the business may face.

* Engage at senior leadership levels within Business Units to provide thought leadership and strategic guidance regarding their IT strategy to ensure it can best support EDF Energy’s business strategy; contribute to the Cloud strategy by suggesting new service capabilities, contributing to EITs role in the delivery of future IT services and thought leadership.

* Act as technical and delivery point of reference to the Architect & Design Community and related Business Unit Design Authorities and product teams; develop and maintain the architecture reference model for cloud services; maintain a roadmap; provide guidance on IT infrastructure and applications architecture matters, new technology, industry trends and associated business enablers that will support business strategy. Manage, mentor and coach architects and designers as required.

* Operate, when required, as a programme level Cloud architect, owning the most complex Cloud architecture and design delivery challenges within the company involving the management of a team of assigned Architects and Designers

* Define, working with the Cloud Security Architect, operational processes for managing and maintaining security controls and technologies.

The Skills

* Thorough understanding of the energy supply and energy services industry in the UK and the related regulatory frameworks and requirements.

* Thorough understanding of the core business processes underpinning the company’s operation, the value they deliver and the control mechanisms by which they are managed.

* Expert understanding of the Cloud marketplace (inc. Hybrid), current innovation and developing IT technologies, with an interest and understanding of the trends and direction of the marketplace; ensuring maximum knowledge sharing across the company to facilitate business performance.

* Demonstrable track record of delivering improvements, optimisation and transformation in an IT Service/Cloud environment with a passion for increasing benefits and value.

* Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.

* Experience migrating from Data Centres to Cloud (Azure or AWS).

* Professional, Certified Microsoft Azure Infrastructure and Deployment/AWS Certified Solutions Architect.

* Experience in designing solutions on Azure or AWS using microservices architecture.
