What You’ll Do

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineering team at Cisco drives the technology that's transforming the way IT departments secure their networks, and more importantly, their users. As an experienced software engineer, you will be a key member of the network applications team, which is responsible for the design, development, and operation of the next-generation systems that will carry Cisco’s new security and network SASE offerings.

This is a small team that does big things. Our primary mission is to provide infrastructure as a service for our engineering teams. We do this by providing APIs to the infrastructure, and blurring the lines between physical data centres and cloud providers such as AWS.

Who You'll Work With

The experience of members on the team is wide and multifaceted, allowing us to see multiple perspectives of any challenge that comes our way. We are a team that is supportive of learning and experimentation.

This full-stack engineering team is a mix of engineers who have come from network, systems, and software engineering roles and experiences.

We work closely with other Cisco Security product engineering teams developing customer-facing security services and with the Cloud Infrastructure Engineering teams building core Internet infrastructure and distributed systems to help deliver the services globally more optimally and efficiently at scale.

The team invests heavily in continual improvement in automation and optimisation. Everything needs to scale horizontally and autonomously with stability, resiliency at high performance with the flexibility to adapt. We take phenomenal pride in building and operating one of the most hyper-connected and highly optimised global Anycast networks in the world.

Who You Are

As a member of this team you will work on taking our network automation to the next level. This includes working with other engineering teams to assess their needs and build the tools to allow them to work with the network programmatically.

Some of the things you will work on:

* Design, build and operate APIs used to work with our infrastructure
* Evolve existing code built with Python and the Django Rest Framework
* Collaborate with software and infrastructure engineering teams to design solutions
* Learn the ins and outs of building and supporting a cloud platform running 24x7 production services
* Fine-tune configuration and improve the performance of a variety of systems alongside your team members. Improve the continuous integration and deployment pipelines
* Work on a globally distributed network that operates at scale.
* Strengthen engineering process, principles, and culture within your team and across the organisation

The team could be a good fit for you if several of these to you:

* Are interested in building applications in a variety of languages.
* Enjoy troubleshooting systems and applications through the entire stack
* Know your way around a Unix terminal
* Experience building or deployed applications using cloud technologies (AWS, Google Cloud, Docker Cloud, kubernetes…)
* Are passionate about building solutions quickly while carefully considering it’s long term future and how today's design decisions will affect the projects future.
* Enjoy working collaboratively in a tight knit team
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines
* You are energised by working on infrastructure, distributed applications, platform and product development
* You want to have a direct impact on the development of a new network infrastructure platform
* You care deeply about creating solutions with security built-in from the beginning
* Are deeply customer-focused, and love learning
* Are comfortable being regularly on-call for production services.

The team is entirely remote so you should be comfortable working and getting to know people in a video call and by IM. The immediate team is based across Europe, with the close connections to teams across the world especially in Vancouver, Canada. We mostly work around GMT and CET time zones, with occasional meetings (~1 a week) in the morning of PST.

Why Cisco

#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference powering an inclusive future for all.

We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we’re “old” (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but we’re also a software company. And a security company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do – you can’t put us in a box!

But “Digital Transformation” is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)

Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.

So, you have colorful hair? Don’t care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That’s cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us!
