What is the purpose of this role?

At Amey we have worked for Scottish Water for more than 20 years providing a wide range of waste water and water services. Our teams work across a variety of infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.

As a Civils Team Leader, your main role will be to lead and direct a team of site Operatives dedicated to the achievement of civils works to the agreed quality, timescales and safety requirements.

What will this role involve?

• Direct the Work Unit to tasks given by the Project team or Line Manager, in a diligent manner, ensuring the work is done in an efficient, cost effective, and professional like manner producing work of high quality
• Act upon unsafe acts or conditions when observed or when reported to you
• Directing the work of all operatives ensuring that they achieve required levels of production within the specified health and safety standards, and timescales
• Ensure staff under your control look after tools and plant to ensure they are in safe condition and capable of producing work of the required standard for the anticipated life of the tool/plant
• Ensure that the Work Unit always use safe methods of working and that the correct tool/plant is used for each task
• Ensure materials are used economically and unused materials are returned to stores
• Arrange for all spare materials to be removed from site in a safe manner at the end of the each job
• Undertake all duties as skilled, in a reliable, flexible constructive manner
• Monitor the performance of the team, record quantity of work carried out and report shortfalls outside of his/her control to Line Manager
• Motivate and lead team members, give guidance and advice to other members.
• Attend training courses necessary for development of the skills needed to carry out the tasks performed by the work group and learn how to act and work safely
• Attend and ensure that all employees attend Safety Briefings and Task Briefings

What are we looking for?

• Good knowledge and understanding of civils work projects
• 5 day SMSTS qualified
• CSCS or CPCS qualifications
• Confined space trained
• NRSWA Qualified
• DOMS & Hygiene
• Ability to manage a team
• A responsible, proactive, and flexible attitude
• An understanding and commitment to health, safety, quality and environmental aspects
• A commitment to actively participate in team responsibilities and provide positive input
• Willing to undertake competency and continuation training as determined by the Company
• Able to drive with a full, valid driving licence
• Willing and prepared to travel
