The office, has recently expanded and is set in the centre of Nottingham. This city centre location gives good public transport links and provides staff with opportunities to enhance their work/life balance. The layout of the office provides a social and community based working environment where a mix of engineering disciplines work together on a variety of projects.

We have an opportunity for an Engineering Technician looking for technically challenging work on cutting – edge projects; to join our established Civil and Ground Engineering Team.

Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Technician with excellent design, technical, and software skills who enjoys working collaboratively in multi-professional design teams, taking responsibility for projects from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results.

This role is to be based within the Arup Airside Infrastructure team.

The role will have a particular focus on airfield infrastructure, however highways and site development projects will also be covered.

You will assist in the production of drawings, specifications and reports to support the project team[s].

Key responsibilities:

*

You will be responsible for the production of engineering drawings and models, working under the supervision of others.

*

This will involve producing drawings and models on the basis of sketch information from engineers, using your experience and knowledge of infrastructure civils to turn the sketches into coordinated models and high quality drawings.

*

You will manage your own time to work to agreed deadlines, and will be required to organize information and documentation effectively, which will include managing CAD and BIM files for projects you are working on.

*

You will support the Group in training and developing new apprentices.

*

You will be an inquisitive and creative, solution-orientated yet collaborative individual, who gives their all to ensure the client is happy and the solution both high-quality and practical.

*

You will be accountable to individual project managers for day-to-day delivery and you will be provided with formal and informal support to develop your skills. You will liaise with other disciplines within the regional office and elsewhere within Arup. You may be required to work away from your normal office from time to time.

Essential Skills and Knowledge

*

Ability to communicate technical issues to co-professionals

*

Proven success of working in a team environment.

*

Design Technician with proven experience.

*

Confident with good communication skills in written and spoken English

*

Able to take responsibility for own work (designs, 3D models, drawings, calculations, reports, etc) and that of junior/apprentice technicians. Would be required to self-check own work and check work of others to satisfy QA requirements.

*

Able to take responsibility for issuing work (design packages, 3D models, drawing production, basic calculations, etc).

*

Knowledge and experience of applying highway design codes (eg DMRB).

*

Ability in AutoCAD, MicroStation and Microsoft Office

*

Ability in, and demonstrable experience of, the application of 3D design software packages (e.g. InRoads, Civil 3D) – aviation or major highway experience is essential.

*

Design experience in general technical aspects of highway or aviation design would be expected – e.g. surface water drainage, signs and markings, pavement design.

*

Ability to balance own workload against project requirements.

*

Ability to communicate technical issues to co-professionals

*

Proven success of working in a team environment.

*

Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

*

Ability to work on multiple projects

Desirable Skills and Knowledge

*

Knowledge and experience of applying relevant aviation design codes (eg CAP 168, ICAO Annex 14), EASA.

Qualifications:

HNC/HND or equivalent
