Civil Engineer/Senior Civil Engineer
Carlisle/Manchester

We are looking for a Civil Engineer to work on a varied portfolio of projects being delivered by our multi-disciplinary teams based in Carlisle. In the role, you will take the design lead on mainly highways related projects and your specific role would include alignment, pavement and drainage design and associated activities (e.g. production of works information and cost estimates) from feasibility to construction.

Your training and experience to date should provide you with a robust understanding of the various disciplines and necessary activities that contribute to successful delivery of multi-discipline infrastructure projects. Your design experience should enable you to provide robust technical advice to team members.

The position will be technically challenging and you will be involved in outline and detailed design, detailed checking of work completed by others and coordination of the design of civil and non-civil disciplines on a wide range of projects.

Key responsibilities:

* Develop and assess alternative design solutions
* Preparation of technical reports at various project stages including feasibility, concept and detailed design
* Preparation of works information and contract documents
* Co-ordination of the production of construction drawings in Civils 3D and ACAD
* Working closely with other disciplines and coordinating the design on multi-discipline projects
* Providing input to proposals, work scope, work schedule and budgets
* Liaison with the Client
* Providing support to allow the project team in relation to the duties of Designer under CDM including the production of design risk assessments
* Provide technical guidance to the project team and ensure that technical delivery of projects is met to a high standard
* Assist the management of risk, health & safety, environmental and quality assurance
* Provide direction and support to project team as well as managing and reporting progress to the project manager
* Assist in the management, development and mentoring of junior staff within the team to achieve high levels of performance and ensure personal professional development targets are met.

Skills / Qualifications

* You will hold a degree level qualification (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering with at least 5 years post-graduation experience.

Education, experience and proficiencies:

* Civil Engineering Degree with extensive experience of delivering highway related projects is essential,
* MEng degree in Civil Engineering is an advantage but is not essential,
* Chartered Status and membership with the ICE or CIHT is an advantage but is not essential,
* Proficiency in AutoCAD is an advantage but is not essential
* Proficiency in Civil 3D is an advantage but is not essential
* Excellent working knowledge of current design standards and in particular DMRB is required
* Knowledge of NEC3 contract preparation is an advantage but is not essential
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint is required
* Experience in Microsoft Project is an advantage but is not essential
