The Opportunity

The UK European Pressurised-water Reactor (EPR) Design Centre further develops EDF’s nuclear expertise in Britain with a centre where leading companies can come together with EDF to support Hinkley Point C (HPC) and other UK EPR projects in their design, build and commissioning. Led by EDF’s new nuclear engineering division (DIPNN UK) and Edvance UK, the Centre is based in Aztec West, Bristol. Around 700 people from different companies will be employed there by 2021, bringing an additional 300 jobs to Britain to support HPC and Sizewell C’s (SZC) design, construction and commissioning.

We now have a unique opportunity for a Civil Architect to join the SZC project, taking overall responsibility of civil activities coving the entire Nuclear Island (NI) scope.

The Role

Coming from an established background in civil engineering, you will take responsibility for key deliverables of building architecture, implementing the best solutions to meet the needs of the SZC NI project organisation.

Leading a team of civil engineers, you will have the following main accountabilities:

• Implementation of the SZC civil project strategy

• Technical decisions for the Nuclear Island design in line with replication strategy

• Verification of the design and replicability requirements

• Monitoring of product developments, integration and verification

• Management of client interfaces relating to civil engineering activities

• Management of risks and opportunities

• Budget management for the civil discipline of the NI scope

• Build strong relationships with building architects and contract managers in order to achieve operational objectives

The Skills

To be successful in the role, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

• Civil Engineering degree or equivalent qualification/ experience

• Experience in the management of large projects

• Experience in contract management

• Technically credible with excellent negotiation and communication skills

• Pragmatic solution focused approach to coordination of issues

• Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders

Desirable:

• Working level of French

• Knowledge of EPR design and engineering processes

• System engineering process

• Chartership or willingness to obtain chartership
