Wood is currently recruiting for a Circular Economy & Sustainability Consultant / Assistant Consultant in our Glasgow (or Knutsford / Reading / Shrewsbury) office.

Wood has a long established and evolving business delivering environmental consultancy and advice to clients within the UK and worldwide. The Advisory Services Unit currently delivers high quality services across a variety of sectors including government, industry, public sector, infrastructure, nuclear, waste, water, renewables and transport. The focus of our unit is broad, incorporating environmental policy, economics, climate resilience & adaptation, circular economy, sustainability, waste management, GIS and digital. Our work supports decarbonisation and the transition to a net-zero carbon future.

We are seeking to recruit a talented and ambitious Assistant Consultant or Consultant to join our Circular Economy team. The purpose of this role is to support delivery of a range of ongoing and upcoming projects focused on circular economy, waste, net zero carbon and sustainability. The candidate is also expected to provide support to other teams, in particular the Waste Management and Renewables teams.

We are looking for an early career professional with proven understanding of circular economy and some experience in waste or carbon management, or in corporate sustainability. We are looking to further strengthen our team in the areas of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and would particularly welcome applicants with expertise from either of these areas.

Key Responsibilities

This role will provide research, analysis and reporting support to a range of multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of circular economy, waste, net zero and sustainability projects for a range of clients for industry, local and national government bodies and international institutions.

Specific tasks will include:

* Data gathering, analysis and research from a range of sources, including analysing, interrogating, formatting, validating and presenting summary data trends and key outputs for use in a variety of ways including impact assessments, modelling and other applications to support projects;
* Preparing a range of written and verbal project and technical outputs (e.g. progress reports, project updates, presentations, meeting notes), focussing on clarity of message for a range of technical and non-technical audiences;
* Tracking regulatory and legislative changes relevant to the circular economy, waste and the environmental sector as a whole and preparing short updates for internal and external uses;
* Use of existing models to develop options for clients in line with changes in legislation and client-specific requirements;
* Supporting the assessment and implementation of corporate sustainability strategies and initiatives; and
* Organising, attending, contributing to and taking actions from multi-disciplinary meetings (online and face to face) and, where appropriate, acting as Wood’s technical representative;
* Organising and delivering stakeholder consultation exercises with a variety of audiences, including surveys, with collation, analysis and reporting of data;
* Contributing to a range circular economy, waste, net zero and sustainability projects as required.

Skills / Qualifications

Skills / Experience

Essential:

* Understanding of circular economy and / or waste legislation and policy in the UK, Europe and / or internationally;
* Understanding of challenges relating to a transition to sustainable behaviours within industry, business and domestic sectors;
* Numerate individual with strong data management, analysis and interpretation skills. Familiarity with Office software (particularly Excel);
* Good time management skills, including the ability to manage outputs from a number of projects at once;
* Proven ability to prepare high quality written technical reports to a high level of quality assurance;
* Ability to engage in active, professional verbal and written communications with colleagues (including senior colleagues), clients and sub-contractors; and
* Self-starter, capable of working proactively with colleagues located in multiple locations

Desirable:

* Understanding of circular economy and / or waste legislation and policy in the UK, Europe and / or internationally;
* Understanding of challenges relating to a transition to sustainable behaviours within industry, business and domestic sectors;

* Second Degree in a relevant subject
* Professional affiliation with or membership of appropriate body (e.g. IEMA, CIWM, IET)
* UK driving licence
