At Amey Consulting we have ambitions to maintain our current rapid rate of growth in other asset-intensive sectors whilst continuing to develop innovative analytical and digital solutions in our current core markets. Moving forward we are looking to appoint a new Business Director who will lead the 120 strong national team to expand its services into other key sectors, scaling up and diversifying the business into further management consultancy type activities to help and support our clients. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with both the wider Amey Consulting team and across the broader Amey Group.

The role:

As the Business Director you will lead and further develop the Amey Consulting Advisory business. This is a team with a world class reputation in analytics, data-led transformations and digital solutions. The team’s expertise also includes intelligent transport systems, asset management and the development of digital strategies for asset owners and operators. The team’s work currently embraces Rail, Highways, Light Rail, Utilities, Defence and Major Structures.

Advisory Services enjoys strong fee generation of approximately £15m mainly from working in partnership with key clients such as Heathrow Airport, Network Rail, Highways England and the wider Amey. We expect the successful candidate will lead business growth to double revenues in the coming 3-5 years.

We are seeking a leader with significant experience in planning and delivery of business growth and of managing an expanding P&L. The leader will also have demonstrable expertise managing and inspiring talented teams. They will become the face of the Amey Consulting Advisory business within the industry and a leader capable of galvanizing a team to deliver unparalleled service, rigor and quality as well as substantial commercial results.

The individual will have a key role within the Consulting Executive team and will be expected to contribute to the wider Amey Consulting strategy working in collaboration with peers. The successful candidate will show potential for further progression in the business and will have a clear development plan in place to support this.

What are we looking for from you?

Experience:

* Senior executive with a proven track record of operational leadership, managing a significant P&L and budget.

* Ideally technically qualified in an analytical and/or digital discipline, can understand client issues and translate and communicate associated technical solutions.

* Used to driving a business development strategy, with experience of successfully creating and/or growing a business unit or specialist team across a wide range of sectors.

* Has led successful bids – strategy, resourcing, solution development, commercial negotiations and delivery.

* Driven by innovation, engages passionately with the digital agenda.

* Can evidence taking accountability for HSEQ across business area; driving health and safety excellence and championing continuous improvement and best value, ensuring compliance with the quality systems.

* Has experience of driving efficiency, effectiveness and best practice.

Leadership:

* Creates a clear strategy and direction for the team and can evidence success.

* Takes personal ownership; models high levels of integrity and ethical conduct, always upholds professional standards and is a role model for others.

* Possesses clear leadership qualities, including an ability to guide, mentor and inspire highly talented teams.

* Creates an inclusive working environment and has experience of building a diverse team.

* Experience of embedding robust succession planning, enabling development of talent and building a sustainable talent pipeline.

Stakeholder Engagement and External Profile:

* Proven collaborator with a talent for stakeholder management, building strong relationships with clients across our sectors.

* Evidence of demonstrating excellent client focus and customer orientation.

* Proven thought leader across our markets, offering insight into the industry with an established broad network. Will be comfortable attending and leading industry events, representing the Amey Consulting Brand and networking.

* As well as engaging colleagues and customers in Amey Consulting, you will partner the wider Amey Group, collaborating closely with senior leaders across the organisation to devise ways to offer our customers added value services.

* You will be familiar with operating across the supply chain.
