Job Description

Job Title: Director, Business Development, Clinical Diagnostic Systems
Reports To: Vice President & General Manager, Clinical Diagnostics Systems
Position Location: Vantaa, Finland (preferred) or Northern Europe

Position Summary:

The position is responsible for developing the Clinical Diagnostics business by defining new opportunities and devising business plans that support the short and long term business objectives of Thermo Fisher Scientific, the Clinical Diagnostics Division (CDD) and the Clinical Diagnostics business. The position is key to driving the business’ strategic vision and direction and works with key stakeholders to identify and implement strategic initiatives, including identifying new markets, expanding current markets, identifying and evaluating acquisition and divestment targets. The position is responsible for managing and expanding the relationships with OEM partners and other major external business partners.

Core Responsibilities
* Member of the A&A business unit leadership team
* Develop and maintain relationships with OEM partners and other external business partners to support business strategy, goals and initiatives
* Own the business results for the OEM and external partner business of A&A
* Drive the negotiation process with clients to close new and maintain existing business
* Monitor existing customer contracts and execute renewals with revised terms consistent with company objectives (as applicable) or execute terminations as applicable
* Drive the strategic vision of the A&A business unit and contribute to development of strategic plans and initiatives
* Identify and evaluate strategic opportunities for organic growth. Conduct market analysis to understand market demand and identify business opportunities
* Conduct the necessary diligence within the organization and perform business case justification to determine the merits and prioritization (e.g. profitability, strategic fit/interest, capacity and resource utilization) of business opportunities
* Identify and evaluate opportunities to expand the A&A and CDD business through M&A, licensing or other business development initiatives
* Work closely with Marketing, Operations and Research and Development Departments to challenge and improve market competitiveness, pricing, compensation and distribution strategy
* Represent CDD and A&A business at client meetings, industry exhibits, trade shows and conferences. Provide in depth presentations to introduce company, division, business and product offering
* Support organization continuous improvement initiatives to maximize performance and improve quality, efficiency, and customer allegiance
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications
* Master’s degree in Science, Medical technology, Business or other relevant discipline
* MBA degree considered a plus
* Five years of leadership experience within In Vitro Diagnostics (strongly preferred) or other Medical or Life Science industry
* Contract negotiation skills gained through involvement in development of business-to-business relationships
* Understanding of IVD regulatory requirements for USA, European and Asian markets strongly desired
* Exposure to process improvement efforts (i.e. lean, six sigma, practical process improvement) considered a plus

* Proven track record of negotiating at a high level within the IVD space
* Proven track record of developing and managing complex business relationships
* Proven ability to plan and manage at both the strategic and operational levels
* Demonstrated scientific knowledge of the industry, products and understanding of client needs
* Ability to use a high level of tact, diplomacy, discretion and empathy/understanding in a global environment across multiple cultures at all levels of the workforce
* Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and contract negotiation skills
* Ability to manage effectively in a matrix environment and display credibility in mentoring and forging solid, positive working relationships with marketing groups, R&D teams, business units, division and corporate staff
* Must possess strong computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, email, internet etc.
* Ability to travel internationally up to 40%
* Ability to spend up to 30% of time at the Vantaa site, if not relocating
