Job Description Summary

As a Business Designer you will work closely with the Design Lead for Major Core Programmes to manage the Design Authority for one or more programmes including ensuring that the end to end design is consistent with the wider bank's design and resolving design issues working with the cross functional teams. You will help define the future state design, lead shaping activity and be responsible for translating the vision into an actionable roadmap. Additionally, you will work closely with product owners, architects, engineering leads and across Divisions to agree designs and drive change within the business to ensure the outcomes of the programme are realised.

We are seeking talented people to join the Major Core Programme Design team within Group Design & Data, working across Group Transformation to lead on business design for the Group’s larger scale programmes under the third Group Strategic Review (GSR3).

As a Business Designer you will work closely with the Design Lead for Major Core Programmes to manage the Design Authority for one or more programmes including ensuring that the end to end design is consistent with the wider bank's design and resolving design issues working with the cross functional teams. You will help define the future state design, lead shaping activity and be responsible for translating the vision into an actionable roadmap. Additionally, you will work closely with product owners, architects, engineering leads and across Divisions to agree designs and drive change within the business to ensure the outcomes of the programme are realised.

Your remit will include:

Shape and align programme: Works with business and IT colleagues to define solution options providing recommendations and shaping delivery roadmaps. Leverages and creates strategic design components for the wider benefit of the Group

Solve design issues: Works on complex programmes to deliver Business Solution Designs that address scope or design issues, identifying key design decisions and progressing them to resolution, working collaboratively with business and IT colleagues.
Leverage and develop Enterprise Functions and ‘Bank of the Future’ Enablers
Govern business design: Plans and manages the path through business design governance, working closely with architects, programme and business stakeholders to ensure clear understanding of content and quality assurance of architecture deliverables. Chairs and runs design governance forums to agreed standards.
Develop and maintain the target and transition state operating models: Leads/manages the development of TOMs, roadmaps and other design assets working closely with business colleagues and IT architects through the lifecycle stages to understand the change and its impact on the whole organisation. Owns the design integrity for target and interim state operating models, performing design impact assessments for change requests and validating that the delivered solution achieves agreed outcomes. Illustrates alignment between strategic goals, change objectives and key business decisions across all aspects, highlighting gaps in capabilities, delivery of strategy and proposing relevant solutions.
Stakeholder Management: Builds and maintains external and internal networks to identify best practice and to build the profile of the Business Design community.
People & Self Development: Leads, motivates and develops team members to create a high performing team. Contributes to the development and performance of the wider Business Design community, including identifying opportunities for Colleagues in line with future skill and resourcing requirements, sharing best practice.
Risk: Continuously evaluates programme/projects for Business Design, financial and people risk and regulatory compliance and takes appropriate steps to mitigate.

You will also act as an advocate of new ways of working including agile and will assist with training people, managing performance and driving career development opportunities for lab and programme colleagues.

The successful candidate will be able to evidence experience across a range of design related disciplines including business analysis, business architecture, systems thinking and service design, most likely gained either through large-scale transformation in a corporate environment or through a top-tier consulting firm; most importantly you will demonstrate logical, well-structured thought processes, and the ability to apply a variety of relevant insights to drive transformational change. You will also be able to demonstrate subject matter expertise across enterprise wide business areas of a Financial organisation.
