What is the purpose of the role?

Due to company growth and development we are currently recruiting for an experienced Building Surveyor to work on our treatment site in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire. You will provide professional advice on property and construction, ranging from multi-million-pound structures to modest adaptations and repairs. You'll complete detailed reports, known as building surveys; you'll identify defects and advise on repair, maintenance and restoration options. Projects include existing buildings, buildings of architectural or historic importance and the development of new ones. You may implement preventative measures to keep buildings in good condition and look for ways to make buildings sustainable. You'll work alongside local planning bodies, clients, construction workers and other professionals to ensure work is completed to the highest standard.

The exceptionally broad skill set encompassing (engineering, commercial, delivery, Health & Safety) is required for this opportunity whereby you will be given the autonomy to deliver at every stage of your assigned projects. You will liaise with operational specialists across our waste water treatment plants and pumping stations, developing processes and procedures to continually improve and achieve a successful outcome to the project, keeping a strong customer focus. You will join a highly collaborative and supportive and will be expected to travel across the Thames Valley region.

What will this role involve?

As a Building Surveyor you have the opportunity to be involved in any part of the construction process and throughout the 'operational lifecycle' of a building including:

Carrying out acquisition surveys to identify any disrepair liabilities or operational issues that will need to be addressed in order to make the premises fit for purpose (Fire precautions, rights of way, asbestos & H&S).

Undertaking measured surveys of stores.

Preparing CAD plans detailing existing floor plan layouts and elevations.

Acting as Principle Designer ensuring full compliance with CDM.

Designing store fit outs and preparing CAD plans detailing these.

Submitting applications for and securing statutory consents (building regulation, planning, advert & listed building).

Producing specifications and obtaining competitive tenders.

Tender analysis and award of contract.

Contract administration duties including chairing pre-start meetings with retailers and contractors, confirming scope and variations, final snag/handover and agreement of the final account.

Arranging utility connections for new stores.

What are we looking for?

This is a busy role; therefore you will need excellent time-management skills and the ability to work quickly and to strict deadlines. You'll need to be a strong communicator, with the confidence and skills to work independently and take initiative, as you will be providing management support on each project, undertaking negotiations with contractors, and liaising with senior retail management and key stakeholders. You'll need practical experience in AutoCAD, as you'll need to produce floor plans and technical drawings for store fit-outs. Working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word & Outlook) is also essential for this role. You'll be commercially minded, taking a pragmatic approach to obstacles, and acting in a decisive manner to deliver your projects. You will need to work collaboratively as a team in order to succeed, taking a lead role when necessary to get the job done. With previous experience as a Building Surveyor, ideally possessing a RICS or CIOB accredited degree in Building Surveying or Construction; you'll be able to operate independently without support is crucial for your success in this role.

Thames Water information and salary details

This role is based in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire. We are offering a salary of £38,000 to £50,000 depending on your level of experience.
