Job Summary

We are looking for an apprentice to join our Bridges and Structures team in Basingstoke. As leaders in the sector, our Bridges teams provide challenging opportunities in an ever-evolving industry. Our undisputable global position could give you the chance to work for example in the design of a major underground project between our UK, Europe and Middle East offices; undertake the assessment and maintenance of the current UK bridge network; or propose renewal structural works for a central station.

With both international and domestic clients, we are committed to providing quality, innovative and sustainable solutions using the latest technology in civil and structural engineering whilst taking advantage of our integrated range of services by collaborating with other disciplines across AECOM. We are looking for ambitious, hardworking, enthusiastic apprentices who have computational, mathematical and design skills. Successful candidates will work on a variety of projects from concept design to implementation for clients who operate either locally, nationally or internationally.

Some recent examples of our works include A303 Stonehenge Tunnel scheme, Thames Tideway new sewer under the River Thames; Wessex Capacity Alliance £350M rail enhancement project including Waterloo Station; Crossrail; and CAFA Wessex structures assessment contract for Network Rail.

You will use industry leading computer software while working on a variety of different bridge specific expertise including:

*

Production of CAD drawings

*

Preparation of 3D BIM models

*

Undertaking desktop studies on existing structures

*

Assisting in the planning and undertaking inspection of existing structures

*

Assisting in the design and assessment of structures

*

Supporting in the administration of projects

*

Working towards achieving Engineering Technician (EngTech) status, and subsequently Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with the Institute of Civil Engineers or the Institute of Structural Engineers

You will combine work-based on-the-job training and learning with further studies and must be willing to progress your career. After an initial probationary period you must be willing to undertake a day release course at a Further Education College to study a level 3 BTEC in Civil Engineering or a level 6 Civil Engineering Degree Apprenticeship, with the aim to ultimately achieve Engineering Technician status and subsequently Incorporated Engineer status.

Minimum Requirements

This position is ideally suited to school leavers at GCSE or A-Level (or equivalent) who can demonstrate the following:

Minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at grade ‘C/4’ or above, including Mathematics & English

*

Three A-Levels (or equivalent such as a BTEC Level 3 in Civil Engineering) including Maths and a Physical Science at grade 'C' or above - essential for Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship

*

Demonstrate an interest and a desire to pursue a career in bridge and structural engineering

*

Show an aptitude towards engineering, preparation of technical drawings and 3D modelling

*

Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning

*

Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic

*

Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and commitment to quality

*

Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects

*

English language proficient with good communication skills
