BREEAM Assessor (flexible location)

Engineer a sustainable future

We believe that radical ideas are needed to help reimagine the future of our built environment. A future characterised by planetary and fair human wellbeing. We must realise this at a time of unprecedented change, complexity and intensity. This brings great challenge, but also great opportunity.

Buro Happold’s UK Sustainability and Physics team is made up of engineers and practitioners with varied backgrounds and experiences. We are deliberately diverse and collaborative, united by the common purpose of engaging with these challenges and opportunities.

Our team is expanding due to the development of strong relationships, an excellent reputation and a shift in emphasis within the market to demand more consulting input; based on robust technical knowledge and analysis.

We are looking for a qualified BREEAM Assessor to join our growing team of bright and like-mind sustainability engineers and consultants. Our team has delivered some of the world's most sustainable buildings including the One Angel Square Co-Operative Headquarters which achieved the highest ever BREEAM Outstanding rating at the time of certification. We have also won the CIBSE Building Performance Consultancy of the Year (over 1000 employees) award for 4 years running.

Whilst this is an agile role with significant scope for home working, we would ideally like you to be within reach of either our London, Bath, Manchester or Leeds office.

Be Challenged

With us, your preconceptions will be tested, your resilience built, and your career enriched.

As a BREEAM Assessor, your role will support a wide variety of projects across our UK portfolio, including sports stadia, entertainment and cultural venues, mixed use, R&D facilities, higher education campuses, and much more.

Naturally, the role will be extremely varied however your typical responsibilities can be expected to comprise...

* Undertake BREEAM consultancy for a wide variety of buildings and masterplans within the sustainability and building physics remit

* Investigate multiple solutions to BREEAM challenges summarising the benefits and shortfalls of each to help optimise the BREEAM strategy for a client

* Work as part of multidisciplinary team, attending meetings with architects etc and leading BREEAM workshops

* Maintain knowledge of latest BREEAM developments and emerging trends, and proactively disseminate this to relevant teams within Buro Happold

* Supporting on design competitions and bids, including preparation of BREEAM fee proposals

* Produce reports and presentations with excellent technical, visual and grammatical quality

* Comply with all Buro Happold internal quality assurance procedures

* Delivering project work within agreed deadlines and to the appropriate level of detail

* Working within the agreed budget on tasks as set by the Job Leader, raising any concerns from an early stage.

Be Challenged

With us, your preconceptions will be tested, your resilience built, and your career enriched.

As a qualified BREEAM Assessor with experience in the construction/built environment sector, we would expect you to demonstrate the following...

* Qualified BREEAM assessor (New Construction and/or RFO) – 2014 or 2018 accredited

* Awareness of broader sustainability issues (e.g. passive design, health & wellbeing, post occupancy evaluation, low impact materials, water, waste, environmental economics etc)

* Willingness to learn a variety of different sustainability assessment methods e.g. LEED, WELL, Fitwel etc, and/or modelling software such as IES, TAS, Revit, Grasshopper etc, as well as interest in more strategic sustainability consulting

* Willingness to learn about risk management, financial management and commercial awareness

* Able to meet deadlines, flagging any concerns from the outset

* Ideally you will be a Graduate member to a Chartership institute

* Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in a relevant subject

Desirable

* Knowledge of other certification schemes, such as HQM, WELL, LEED, Living Building Challenge
