Altran is recruiting for a specialist BIW Design Engineer to join our project team in the Warwick area.

Please note: We are looking for an engineer who has a specialism in Body in White enclosures with an emphasis on steel. You would be involved in the concept and design phase brining new ideas, processing finishes, some modelling and will be fully involved with associated materials. If you do not have relavent BIW experience you will not be suitable for this position.

Your role

As a BIW Design Engineer with Altran, you will be fundamental to our ability to deliver to our customers and clients. Our customer expectations are high; as such we are looking for adaptive, driven people to deliver on time to required quality.

You will work with the co-located engineering team to explore concepts of BIW sub-systems utilising high-strength steels, next generation materials, jointing and manufacturing techniques with an aim to research and develop a BIW architecture that showcases the positive attributes of such materials. The objective will be to demonstrate improved torsional and bending strength, crash worthiness, reduced overall weight, innovative engineering solutions that enhance the holistic BIW performance and specification. Activities will include:

* Developing novel concept designs of modern innovative BIW designs and familiar with best practice

* Understand the background design rationale behind benchmark reference designs e.g. BMW, CLAR, Ford C2, VAG

* Ability to translate steel grade information into exceptional designs (low cost, low waste, formed geometries etc.

* To work hand in hand with the Altran designers

* Knowledge of steel material and processes

* sub-system concepts and individual parts to targets

* An understanding of BIW Topology data and how to develop BIW load path structures accordingly

* Integrating manufacturing recommendations into concept design

* Working with the FEA team to explore structural performance recommendations

* Interfacing with the engineering team to ensure full integration of sub-systems

* Supporting team discussions and meetings to relate progress, risks and opportunities

* Supporting the Technical Maturity Process as defined by team leadership

* Supporting report out of technical status to the leadership team

* Using Catia V5 generate 3D models to achieve defined targets and attributes.

Your profile

​​​​​​You will have extensive knowledge of BIW Steel development and an understanding of High Strength Steels including 3rd Generation steels, Hot Form and Hydroform processes.

It is essential that you possess creative problem-solving skills in a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with all levels of customer and Altran stakeholders. Due to the nature of the assignments undertaken by Altran you will work in an environment that promotes autonomy and initiative, requiring a flexible attitude. Above all, you will have a desire to progress.

You must have:

* An engineering understanding of material characteristics and behaviour as well as excellent Catia capability

* Knowledge of automotive technical issue resolution and experience with a range of CAD, BOM, CAE, and other virtual assessment processes, methods and tools

* Extensive BIW experience including high strength, next generation, exotic steels

* A good understanding of current and new manufacturing stamping and assembly processes and techniques.

* Knowledge of System Engineering practice and methodology

* Knowledge of vehicle architectures and system integration, testing, validation and verification processes; from component to system and whole vehicle
