Associate Town Planner (SOL00006K)

Primary Location

Other Locations

Discipline
: Town Planning

Job Posting
: 13-Nov-18

Would
you like to join our Planning team in the Midlands? We work on a variety of schemes
and you will be a leading member of the Planning Midlands team at Arup yet
have a national presence working on UK wide projects and working across Arup’s
multi-disciplinary teams.

The Team

Our team has advised
the most important clients in this space, has developed powerful collaborations
with some of the leading thinkers and lobbyists, and is at the forefront of
thinking on the transport and development issues that will shape cities’
development, including unlocking growth around high speed rail stations, estate
regeneration, metro-systems, autonomous vehicles, new highway investments,
aviation policy and sub regional growth plans. We now invite you to
join us to help shape a better world.

As winners of the RTPI’s
Planning Excellence awards in recent years, our clients expect us to provide
the most innovative, professional and robust advice. In the Midlands we are
growing our capability in response to the demand for development growth from
national infrastructure schemes such as HS2 to supporting partners with
devolution aspirations and city growth strategies.

The Role

Nearly seventy
percent of the world’s population will be living in cities by 2030. They are
the world’s engines for growth and will drive future prosperity: cities are the
places that drive the economy, that address global issues, and that provide the
innovations of the future. Cities also face many challenges, including
providing high quality transportation systems to service economic need, to
encourage investment, and to contribute to a high quality of life of
citizens. The relationship between transit, housing, spatial
planning and agglomeration access is also becoming more widely acknowledged,
meaning that decision makers increasingly value strategic, integrated advice
that takes account of the intertwining of the different systems.

We are looking for an
Associate Town Planner with experience in delivering consents for major schemes
and growing our planning offer. Through your work in this role, you will:

·
Help
strengthen our Midlands Planning team;

·
Lead
planning projects (consents, policy work, research) for a variety of clients;

·
Work in
teams and manage staff – as both a specialist within a multi-disciplinary team,
but also with the abilities to lead teams of different specialists;

·
Present to
clients and work with them on a day to day basis;

·
Liaise and
negotiate with planning officers;

·
Develop
relationships internally with our other practices/teams;

·
Win new
business, including preparing bids for new work;

·
Write
reports and give presentations;

·
Integrate
into project delivery teams within Arup and with external consultants /
collaborators;

·
Report to
our Planning and Economics leader in the Midlands.

This is an opportunity to:

·
Support the
development and growth of our Planning business in the Midlands;

·
Develop and
promote best practice within the team;

·
Provide
management and leadership support to junior members of the team;

·
Identify
new work opportunities for the team.

Required Skills & Experience

·
Typically,
over 10 years’ experience working in town planning.

·
Experience
of developing planning policy and of providing development planning services.

·
The ability
to think creatively to develop planning policy based on robust evidence.

·
Team
leadership and people management experience.

·
Business
development experience, including building successful client relationships and
growing a network of client contacts.

·
Degree,
Masters or Diploma qualified in town planning

·
Member of
the Royal Town Planning Institute (We would also consider Royal Institute of
Chartered Surveyors Planning & Development, depending on relevant
experience)

·
Experience
of working in either the Public or the Private Sector.
