Job Summary

We are recruiting for an Associate Director with experience in bridge design and refurbishment, to join our busy and expanding experienced Bridges & Structures team.

Our Birmingham office has an established track record of successfully delivering bridges & structures projects, throughout the UK. The team provides input to projects throughout the infrastructure lifecycle from feasibility to detailed design, in addition carry out inspections, assessments, maintenance and refurbishment of existing assets; with a keen eye on sustainability as part of our delivery. The projects we deliver range from standalone bridge commissions, existing frameworks and supporting other parts of AECOM’s business on major multidisciplinary projects. Our clients vary from both the private and public sector and include the major custodians of the UK’s road and rail network, numerous local authorities, private developers and major Contractors.

Current projects include:

Major Network Rail assessment contract, a major highway bypass, South Wales Trunk Road Framework, design and checking support to other teams, and assessment of some of the UK’s most complex existing structures.

As an Associate Director, reporting directly to the Birmingham Bridges and Structures Office Lead, you will provide support in leading in the following:

*

Responsible for maintaining and seeking to improve the excellent health, safety and welfare culture in the team, through regular briefings and training as well as ensuring that everyone engages proactively with our safety culture.

*

Responsible for assisting the Structures Office Lead with furthering our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion through training and leadership on increasing awareness and engagement.

*

Responsible for interfacing with and supporting the Office Lead on balancing resource against projects, providing financial and resource forecasting for both awarded work and future opportunities.

*

Technically lead rail and/or road bridge and associated structures engineering schemes through to detailed design.

*

Project manage, including programme development, resource monitoring, quality control, technical management and delivery.

*

Lead on unique engineering tasks or controversial problems, taking an initiative on deep exploration of subject area and deliver decisive conclusions.

*

Developing and maintaining liaison with other UK offices.

*

Oversee and direct less experienced project managers on other projects, in a Project Director capacity.

*

Drive quality culture within the team, taking on a Lead Verifier role on projects, driving improvements in self-checking and in-team checking.

*

Provide Line Management and Team Leadership to staff at various grades from experienced graduates to experienced Chartered Engineers.

*

Responsible for reviewing and signing off Technical Approval documentation.

*

Hands on technical design and assessment guidance for road and/or rail structures.

*

Pro-active client liaison.

*

Production of tenders including quality documentation, costing estimate, risk and involvement with legal reviews.

*

Mentoring graduate engineers on our approved ICE Training Scheme.

Minimum Requirements

*

Proven design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget.

*

Significant experience of leading teams with a focus on the design of new bridges, able to lead teams of graduate and senior engineers in such projects.

*

Experience of Eurocodes, British Standards, DMRB and Network rail standards.

Preferred Qualifications

*

Degree educated or equivalent in a relevant subject.

*

Chartered Engineer with ICE or IStructE.
