Associate Director - Acoustics Underwater Specialist

RPS is looking for an acoustics consultant with extensive experience within the field of underwater and environmental acoustics to join us as either an Associate or Technical Director, based out of our Brighton office (other locations can be considered). The role will have particular appeal to those working in the marine and offshore sector. RPS is a leading global multi-disciplinary consultancy working in all areas of the built and natural environment, shaping the future of our environmental, social and economic landscapes. RPS has substantial and growing global work in the offshore renewables sector and the successful candidate can expect to work on overseas projects as well as projects in UK and Irish waters.

Your role

This is a key role in which you will be providing strong and reliable leadership within environmental acoustics, in particular for underwater acoustics for energy and infrastructure projects, to the established Acoustics team. You will contribute to the management and operation of our specialist acoustics, noise & vibration the business unit, which consultancy covers both environmental and building acoustics for planning and major infrastructure developments across a wide range of sectors for both public and private sector clients The role will give you the opportunity to help expand the enthusiastic team and enable you to provide strategic oversight and gain experience of the RPS Acoustics business in the UK. You will be actively winning business for the Acoustics team, as well as working alongside other teams within RPS on joint projects. You will be working with private sector clients as well as negotiating with regulators and other statutory consultees.

Your skills and experience

You will need to have an excellent technical understanding and extensive experience in the field of underwater and environmental acoustics, noise and vibration, preferably within a consultancy context to support development projects, and large infrastructure projects. You’ll be an expert in your field, a highly experienced and competent practitioner with strong leadership qualities, preferably with expert witness experience. An MSc/MEng in Physics and/or Acoustics along with MIOA or FIOA is ideal.

You’ll have good people management capabilities, be a creative and strategic thinker with strong negotiating techniques and a track record of taking ownership of and achieving outcomes for clients, business, teams and self. You will have a well-established market reputation with a demonstrable record of winning sustainable and commercially viable projects. You will have experience of developing and executing business development plans. Good financial and project management skills are essential, as are great influencing and communication skills that enable you to build, maintain and consolidate strong working relationships with colleagues, clients and external bodies.
