Associate / Associate Director - Mechanical Engineering

WYG is looking for a mechanically biased Associate Director/Associate to join our dynamic M&E team based in Manchester. The Manchester office is situated in the vibrant Quay West at MediaCityUK, a hub for technology, innovation and creativity, and you would be joining a multi-disciplinary company offering professional services including mechanical and electrical design, civil and structural engineering, acoustics, architecture, planning and project management.

The role of Associate Director/Associate is key to the structure and performance of the building services team in Manchester and you would be responsible for the delivery of engineering design solutions, the management of your projects and the performance of your project team.

You will need to ensure the provision and successful delivery of building services across a wide range of sectors including scientific and laboratories, defence, commercial, industrial, retail, healthcare, education and leisure within both public and private domains.

Your Role

This role will include all aspects of a building services engineering consultancy and you will be reporting directly to the Engineering Director within the Manchester office. We are looking for someone with a background in mechanical engineering and a high level of knowledge in electrical engineering, public health and sustainability and a key understanding of construction.

Your responsibilities will include the technical and commercial management of your own projects with a proven track record in delivery. You will manage and develop other engineers, carry out calculations and verify those carried out by your team, estimate cost and finance for the business and costs for budgets.

The ideal candidate will have the passion and drive to manage projects in accordance with the client’s brief and programme, developing good business and customer relations. Your works will range from conceptual through to detailed design, controlling and maintaining the quality of work in accordance with the WYG policies and standards.

You will assist and lead in project winning, bids and interviews and will be required to use your skills in contributing to and leading project bids and tender submissions.

About You

The skill set and passion for both engineering and leadership, with the ability to manage and deliver building services engineering design across a wide range sectors. You will be required to attain security clearance to MOD “SC” level and work on both MOD and scientific sector projects requiring security clearance. You will be a good communicator verbally and in the written word expected to communicate with educated clients at the highest level.

Skills:

* Educated to at least degree level in mechanical engineering, building services engineering or equivalent.

* Chartered Engineer and member of relevant body.

* Strong project management skills in delivering building services projects from concept through to handover.

* Excellent communication and client facing skills with the confidence to manage varying client situations.

* Able to develop relationships with new and existing clients.

* Ambition and drive to lead and develop a team of engineers and technicians.

* High level of knowledge and experience of mechanical engineering with a key understanding of other disciplines.

* Knowledge and experience of using AutoCAD and IES software is essential with the ability to interrogate cooling and heating loads, energy models and dynamic simulations carried out by others. Use of Revit and Hevacomp software would be useful but not essential.

* Proven ability to develop designs conscious of energy conservation, sustainability and with a knowledge basis of renewable technologies.
