Associate Architect - Nuclear

This client facing role is primarily to support, manage and develop our existing folio of work in nuclear decommissioning. You will work closely with Civil and Structural Engineering colleagues based in our offices in Cockermouth and Chorley to deliver technically excellent design solutions. With a balance of working from home and the office, you should be located to readily travel to these offices and Sellafield. The successful candidate will also have to be a work winner as the role will involve supporting tenders in the sector. The skill set which makes you a fit for this role will also offer opportunities to work on a wider folio of work for UK Government projects in Defence, Home Office and Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. We are in the business of solving problems for our clients and these present interesting and challenging projects to work on.

Your Role

Your focus will be on maximising opportunities and project delivery within the nuclear sector, primarily from existing frameworks and established contacts. We are looking to grow and our leads for Architecture, Civil and Structural Engineering will support you to develop our capability to win and deliver work. You will report to an Associate Director in our Edinburgh Office who is our Architectural Lead for the nuclear sector. You will develop strong relationships with colleagues working in this sector to provide Architectural and design leadership to projects. Your role will include directly engaging with our clients and you must have experience of the culture in this highly regulated industry. You will have a mandate to find other opportunities in other sectors as well. You will have the opportunity to develop and build our architectural team in this region and become a leader in our architectural business. Your role will include supporting and developing a culture of cross-discipline working within the region, proactively contributing to the development of the client base in the North West and the profile of Architecture in the Cockermouth and Chorley offices. Your role will also include financial control of projects.

About You

You must be an enthusiastic registered Architect that has knowledge and experience of leading the design and assessment of buildings and facilities within the nuclear sector, potentially from inception to completion. Direct experience of Sellafield is preferable, but not essential to the role. Additionally, you will be required to obtain security clearance if it is not already held. Fundamentally you must have the ability to work at a high level employing a range of drawing, modelling and interpersonal skills. You will use these to engage, influence and collaborate with clients, colleagues and stakeholders on a broad range of interesting projects. This is not always just architecture; working with our wide range of professional colleagues you will help solve the type of complex problems our clients need our support with. You will research, write and illustrate print-ready reports. You must have the ability to write fee and project bids, perform effectively at interviews, work on your own initiative and as part of an established team.
