Position Description

Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters are the first point of contact for all existing commercial customers of the Regional Underwriting Unit.
This role is based out of our Maidstone Office but consists of work from our South Regional Underwriting Unit meaning you will be invovled in work for the other two Branches within the South - Chelmsford & Maidstone.

The Fleet Underwriting Unit consists of a Team of 7 Underwriters, based out of the 3 offices, your role will involve;

* Being customer focussed and team oriented in order to deliver an excellent customer journey
* Meet all business targets in relation to the servicing of Broker accounts and ensuring you underwrite within defined parameters in a consistent and profitable manner, in particular with renewal retention and control of lapses.
* Ensure customer satisfaction by building rapport and provide excellent service to external and internal customers
* Handle general customers' queries via the telephone and in writing within agreed service standards.
* Underwrite existing business and mid-term adjustments including analysis and compilation of data for referral.
* Negotiate within authority and referring where appropriate to maximise customer retention including persuading, influencing and convincing customers of the benefits of an opposed course of action.
* Anticipate likely objections and build effective responses.

Skills & Experience

You will be able to demonstrate:

Have a proven knowledge of Underwriting and Customer Service and Risk Analysis skills.
A good level of numerical and verbal reasoning skills.
A sound understanding of the UK general insurance market.
Previous Underwriting experience is desirable.
Past experience of working within a Broker or within the Commercial and/or Engineering insurance sector is desirable.
Practical knowledge of Excel and Outlook.
GCSE Maths and English or relevant equivalent experience.
Cert CII or progression towards.
