Amey Consulting’s Highways teams impact the journeys of millions across the UK, by working in partnership with a range of clients and providing consultancy design services for Strategic and Local Highway networks.

Our teams work on both major design projects and local network improvements and undertake services on national to local frameworks; including those with Highways England Area 10,13 and 14 accounts to Wales and Borders – Amey Keolis and the Midlands Highways Alliance (MHA).

The Role

We are looking for an Assistant Project Manager for our Midlands design team, based in Birmingham. As our Assistant Project Manager, you will assist the Programme Delivery Manager in the management of the portfolio of works for Highways and Structures projects for a variety of clients.

Our Midlands team work on Major Design Projects and Local Network Improvements using their skills to deliver safe, cost effective and timely design solutions. The team currently has a portfolio of projects for a number of Clients including Highways England Major Projects, Highways England Areas 10, 13 and 14, Wales and Borders - Amey Keolis JV and the Midlands Highways Alliance Framework which services 35 local authorities within the Midlands and connection regions.

In a typical week you will:

* Maintain excellent working relationships with our clients and demonstrate a collaborative, flexible, can-do approach

* Project manage a Portfolio of Minor Highway and Structural Improvement Project and assist in the management of Major Improvements inclusive of all required project documents to ensure compliance with procedure

* Prepare a monthly performance statement for your Projects,

* Undertake weekly cost control reviews and weekly debt reviews

* Undertake invoicing for your projects preparing monthly applications for payment

* Liaise with design teams to provide feedback on performance to the client

* Liaise with Senior Management to inform of progress, opportunities, and risks

* Use your working knowledge of NEC4, assisting with writing of Early Warning and Compensation events on behalf of design teams

* Review fee proposals and bids and understanding the importance of managing and monitoring cost and resource against progress

* Commission other disciplines and resources within the business, and external consultants where necessary

* Ensure a high standard of technical output for projects including being aware of current developments in standards and best practice

* Assist with our practice of continuous improvement, leading lessons learnt exercises, canvassing feedback from clients and monitoring key performance indicators

* Promote H&S awareness and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards

* Keep up to date with your own personal development to ensure the natural growth of the team

We want to hear from you if you have:

* A Degree qualification in a relevant discipline

* Began working towards a relevant professional qualification

* Project Management experience in a similar environment

* Knowledge of CDM regulations and other health and safety legislation

* Knowledge of Management of projects and programmes

* Knowledge of Management of project risk

* Report writings skills

* A track record of successful project delivery

* The ability to problem solve in collaboration with clients
