About the role

Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Project Engineerto join our Plant & Fleet business unit to work in Derby.

Role Purpose:

* Manage and deliver HGV engineering projects and suppliers in support of a compliant, safe and efficient fleet of vehicles.

What you'll be doing

As an Assistant Project Engineer you will:

* Manage and deliver vehicle life extensions;
* Manage and deliver vehicle modifications in line with the Engineering Change process;
* Provide technical input into procurement and contract management of suppliers;
* Involve technical specialist engineers as appropriate to ensure that the objectives, technical and performance requirements are met;
* Plan and engineering management of project execution;
* Plan for project assurance;
* Ensure external suppliers compliance with applicable standards, specifications and procedures;
* Develop and management of design and design compliance;
* Plan and management of systems integration;
* Engineer management of testing, completion and bringing into use;
* Manage external garage relationships including audits;
* Live the BBPFS Values;
* Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm;
* Support the delivery of BBPFS Sustainability activities.

Who we're looking for

Personal Qualities and Experience:

Essential

* City & Guilds or equivalent qualification within the relevant field or ability to demonstrate an equivalent level of skill;
* Major asset modification including mechanical knowledge and related Technical expertise.
* Intermediate computer skills with ability to analyse complex data, draw conclusions, produce reports and make recommendations to senior management;
* Ability to plan, implement and manage engineering within projects to deliver to time, budget and quality;

Desirable

* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally;
* Ability to build effective working relationships, with people at all levels across the organisation and externally and to influence;
* Ability to manage multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective performance;
* Ability to use initiative and good judgement when responding to emerging situations, deciding and agreeing appropriate actions with project management;
* Knowledge of Health and Safety;
* Understanding of Goods vehicle Operator licence regulations;
* Knowledge of Health and Safety Management;
* Experience of managing engineering projects;
* Reliability improvement;
* Experience of bringing vehicles into service;
* Customer focused.
