We are seeking a candidate with Bridge Engineer experience to join our team as an Assistant Engineer.
This is an opportunity for the candidate to play a key role in the delivery of a wide range of technical projects for various Local Authority clients. Our projects range in scale from £30 million construction projects to smaller challenging schemes where you will be expected to take a lead role in delivery, often from inception to completion on site. WSP are working with in partnership with a number of Local Authorities. This collaborative approach sees WSP and Local Authority colleagues working together to deliver the full highways service to local communities.
We work locally in Exeter on projects involving the design of new and replacement bridges and retaining walls, as well the inspection, assessment and strengthening/modification of existing structures. Our schemes can include planning and supervising inspections, testing and construction work, as well as procurement, contact administration and more traditional site supervisory roles. You can expect to be regularly working with teams of specialists from other disciplines and companies, both locally and internationally, to help to keep the local transport network fit and safe to use, today and tomorrow.
A typical week would include:
* Work collaboratively with the Contract Manager and Project Manager to identify and resolve technical and commercial issues
* Exercise independent judgement and resolve project issues locally where possible before escalation
* Manage processes to ensure technical, commercial and social issues and risks on a project are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner
* Manage and communicate with identified stakeholders on technical issues, including the Environment Agency, local and remote technical and support teams, political representatives, etc
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
* A professional experience in design and construction management of bridge projects
* A degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent
* Recent, demonstrable experience in conducting design of highway structures in various materials using Eurocodes and in management of the technical aspects of construction
* Demonstrable experience of successfully delivering projects and managing stakeholders
* Knowledge of contractual aspects of bridge construction
* Ability to work independently with sound judgement
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience of stakeholder management
* Effective time management and strong organisational skills.
* A full UK driving licence (or equivalent)
Recent, demonstrable experience in the design of highways structures to Eurocodes and/or the assessment of existing highway structures to the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges, in the technical aspects of construction and in successfully delivering projects and managing stakeholders is also highly desirable.
