Our Opportunity:

By joining our Highways Apprentice Programme, you will embark on an exciting journey that provides the perfect opportunity for you to either build on existing experience or kick start your career.

Our two-year apprenticeship programme combines studying for your HNC in Construction Management, alongside working with our experienced and qualified team of Highways professionals. Working within one of our four depot offices (Sandwich, Aylesford, Ashford, and Tonbridge), you’ll support the existing management team delivering a wide range of highway maintenance operations and civil engineering tasks across the road Network of Kent, as part of our key Highways contract with Kent County Council.

You’ll fully be involved in the day to day operations, including meeting with the client to understand expectations, planning and programming of works and sourcing materials and equipment.

What you'll get whilst on the programme:

Your qualification will be delivered by our specialist training provider Skills4Stem via blended learning - a combination of remote delivery and tutor visits to our workplace. This 24 Month programme will teach you how to effectively supervise and control highway works, Health & Safety, quality and cost control.

* A fully funded HNC in Construction Management backed by on the job vocational training

* A competitive starting salary (£19,094 per year) rising in line with your progress and achievements

* A structured programme of targeted training and development activities, designed to complement what you will learn through your studies and whilst working

What are we looking for:

One of the best things about an Apprenticeship with us is that you don’t need to have previous experience in working on our busy highways. However, we do hope that you’ll share our interest in Highways Maintenance and demonstrate a desire to develop yourself and take advantage of the wide variety of career development opportunities within this area at Amey.

We’re looking for people who love getting hands on and stuck in! You should be comfortable working outside come wind, rain or shine! As you will be working on the Highways it is essential that you possess a good understanding of Health & Safety and can be confident in that environment.

* Minimum qualifications required: 2 GCSE A*-C/4-9 grades (or equivalent), must include Maths and English

* Available to join our programme any time before September 2021

* Passion for developing your skills both professional and personally

* A commitment to complete a two-year HNC whilst working

* A full, clean UK Driving licence is also essential for this role

What you'll get in return:

If you join Amey on a Highways Apprenticeship you will join us for the long term! We place great value on all our people and the contribution they make to our business, that’s why in addition to fully funding your HNC in Construction Management and providing an attractive starting salary, we also offer a fantastic range of benefits for those on our Apprenticeship Programme:

* As an Amey employee, you’ll be eligible for our wider benefits and rewards for example, professional subscriptions, our Employee Assistance Programme, Save with Amey – a fantastic discount scheme for all employees and not to forget our Amey Flexible Benefits Programme where you can opt for benefits that suit you

* We as a business will support you every step of the way; you’ll have a manager overseeing your progress, mentoring from senior colleagues and a buddy to guide you whilst on the programme

* You’ll also have access to a dedicated Early Careers community to support you and if eligible establish yourself in a team working towards your Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award

* To support with your personal development, you’ll take part in webinars with the wider Apprentice community as well as Wellbeing events to ensure you’re getting the support you need
