Job Summary
We are currently recruiting for an Apprentice Document Controller / BIM Technician to join the Building Services team in our Cardiff office. This particular opportunity has arisen in our Building & Places Business Unit which focuses on projects within the Built Environment, with a specific focus on Healthcare and Education projects.
Our work regularly uses cutting edge software and our own developed tools to drive efficiencies and enable clients to undertake ambitious construction projects worldwide.
The BIM team sit within our Building Engineering business line which is involved in local and national projects using the latest design/BIM authoring and reviewing software ensuring compliance with the latest industry standards. The right candidate will need to demonstrate a desire to be challenged and a willingness to learn. This opportunity would suit an individual who is at the start of their career, but who has a desire to become part of a world class team at AECOM. This is an exciting opportunity to receive ‘on the job’ training working on a wide range of building engineering projects across the region whilst being supported by an experienced team during a development period. The successful applicant will be expected to develop their skills primarily in Document Control in addition to developing their skills as a BIM Technician and will be supported at college (usually one day per week with a recognised provider) in order to hone technical skills, whilst gaining opportunities for personal growth and career progression.
Job Responsibilities:

Setting up and maintaining project documentation within project filing requirements.
*
Checking the quality of drawings and documents as project deliverables.
*
Receiving, tracking and monitoring models, drawings and documentation.
*
Interfacing with the project team to coordinate the control of documentation.
*
Generating transmittals to send documentation to external parties through electronic or hard copy means.
*
Checking the accuracy of transmittals.
*
Troubleshoots problems of medium complexity and recommends appropriate action.
*
Project size could range from low to medium complexity.
*
Ensures all local practices and activities comply with company policies and procedures.
*
Other duties as assigned and required.
*
Able to work as part of a team under limited supervision.
Minimum Requirements
No experience is necessary, but the position is ideally suited to school leavers who can demonstrate:
*
Minimum of 3 GCSE at grade ‘C’ / 4/5 or above, including Mathematics, English and Science, and/or either;
*
Show an aptitude towards software-based engineering and drawing e.g. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D software.
*
Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career specifically within Building Services Engineering.
*
Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.
*
Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic.
*
Ability to demonstrate attention to detail.
*
Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organise parts of projects.
*
English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports.
Applicants must be willing to progress their career by undertaking a day release course at a Further Education college to study a relevant course. Your study will be funded and you will earn an income as a permanent employee of AECOM. Subsequently the expectation is that you would go on to achieve relevant professional qualifications as part of your career development.
