Provide technical leadership for larger projects and guidance to less experienced engineers on their projects and other Amey projects.

What makes this role unique?

You will find engineering solutions ensure conformance to the specification and compliant delivery to programme by guiding engineering suppliers to the job and advising the Project Manager.

What will this role involve?

* Agree and implement a mentoring / development plan for less experienced engineers assigned for mentorship / development
* Manage the engineering activity on the allocated projects including support for design reviews; communication and consultation with other functions (design, install and test) over changes; and interfaces with other disciplines (including facilitating inter-disciplinary check meetings)
* Act as Contractor’s Engineering Manager or Contractor’s Responsible Engineer as proposed by the Project Manager
* Advise the Construction/Works Manager on engineering requirement and specification issues, including marking out of sites and ensuring each stage of construction is acceptable and signed off before works progress
* Carry out and record briefings of technical updates to the project team, including sub-contractors, promote best practice and pro-actively identify to resource owners additional training requirements and development opportunities
* Assist the Project Manager in developing his plan for the engineering resource required to deliver the project plan, and provide engineering review of the method statements and risk assessments proposed for the work
* Carry out and record briefings of technical updates to the engineering staff and advise project managers of likely changes required for current schemes
* Set the standard for working practices and actively promote self development of engineers
* Produce and implement an in process inspection and surveillance regime consistent with company standards and project requirements
* Provide sufficient site support to the project team (project manager, site supervisors, resource providers and sub-contractors) throughout the works to ensure that critical engineering decisions can be made in a timely manner and that issues arising can be dealt with to ensure compliance with a minimum of re-work
* Mentorship of other engineers may be across project boundaries
* Direct responsibility for the engineering element of the allocated project(s) and hence the technical guidance of all staff working on the same
* Providing input to bids and guidance for other projects likely to fall within the SPE’s remit if awarded
* The role is one based in an office / site office environment
* It is a requirement of the role to attend site on a regular basis (including night time)

Specific Safety Responsibilities

Overall HSQE project accountability for compliance with statutory legislation, Network Rail Group and Company Standards, and Amey management systems, processes and procedures. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Responsible for ensuring that all planned Safety Inspections tours are completed in accordance with the approved programme, and that identified actions are closed out in a timely manner as applicable
* Assist in the preparation of Safety, Quality, Environmental, Construction Phase Plans, work package plans and task briefs for allocated contracts as requested
* Participate in regular monthly safety meeting with Line Manager
* Ensure that stipulated PPE is worn by all staff in compliance with mandated procedures and legislation
* Identify specific training needs for yourself so as to ensure competency for allocated tasks
* Ensure that mandatory training and competency certification for all staff are valid and copies available
* Ensure that statutory safety and relevant company safety documents are displayed in site cabins and office
* Ensure Ground disturbance procedure is briefed; records kept and strictly adhered to

Personal Safety Equipment

* Amey Company ID
* Sentinel Card
* Safety Helmet
* Personal Headlamp
* Safety Boots
* Reflective Jacket / clothing
* Gloves
* Ear, eye or respiratory protection will only be issued when required and then only after a full briefing as to how to use the equipment properly

What are we looking for?

* Must be able to drive
* Sufficient underpinning knowledge to attain the appropriate IRSE licence within 12 months of appointment or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or similar approved qualification
* Degree qualified engineer who has, or will shortly attain Chartered Engineer status
* Computer literate for office systems and planning tools
* Conversant with company safety, procurement, and quality procedures
* Good communication and interpersonal skills

* PTS
* PTS /IWA
* Emergency First Aid at work
* IOSHH Managing Safely
* COSHH
* Project Induction
