The Role:

* Leading the successful delivery of the steering system on a project to meet functional performance, quality, cost and timing targets

* Define the system specifications of hydraulic, electric-hydraulic or electric power assisted steering systems

* Define system level attribute targets from the vehicle level attribute targets and cascade relevant targets to the chassis team

* Develop an understanding of the mechanical, electrical and functional safety requirements for autonomous vehicles

* Guiding the CAD designers in component design and packaging work

* Liaising with our CAE team to ensure braking system components meet all performance and attribute targets

* Define and support the test and development activities for the steering system

* Ensure compliance with steering system standards including customer and legislative

* Responsibility for creation and delivery of Design Verification (DV) plans and managing DV delivery

The ideal candidate will:

* Technical knowledge of passenger car and off-road vehicle steering systems including system design and specification, performance prediction and design verification

* Have proven experience of delivering at least 2 steering systems from concept to production within an OEM, Tier 1 or consultancy environment

* Understanding of the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic design of steering system components

* Familiarity with data logging, chassis system test instrumentation and data processing

* Experience of writing functional requirements, developing test methods and test reporting

* Experience of automotive product development cycle

* Full UK driving license (no restrictions), vehicle testing and evaluation experience

* Possess good knowledge of chassis component attributes, service implications, manufacturing and assembly requirements

* Be a team player with the ability to work alongside talented colleagues as part of a driven and dedicated team
